In november 2016 werd de Nederlandse journalist Okke Ornstein in Panama gearresteerd en in een gevangenis opgesloten vanwege zijn kritische artikelen over fraude en corruptie in dat land.
Ornstein werkte sinds 2000 in Panama, waar hij radioreportages maakte en een weblog schreef over o.a. zakenlieden die investeringen met grote winstkansen aanboden, maar hun klanten van hun inleg beroofden. Enkele van die zakenlieden sleepten Ornstein voor het gerecht wegens ‘smaad’ en ‘belediging’ en Ornstein werd, zonder dat hij de kans kreeg zich te verdedigen, tot 38 maanden cel veroordeeld.
Zijn collega en goed vriend Gilles Frenken reisde naar Panama, zocht Ornstein op in de gevangenis, en volgde de acties achter de schermen om Ornstein weer op vrije voeten te krijgen.

Schrijver en Volkskrant-columnist Arthur Van Amerongen is geobsedeerd door kanker.
Zijn vader, moeder en broertje zijn overleden aan kanker en driekwart van zijn vriendenkring is er inmiddels aan overleden.
Recentelijk kreeg zijn goede vriend Albert de Lange te horen dat hij is uitbehandeld.
De Lange beschrijft zijn lotgevallen wekelijks in de Parool-column Uitbehandeld.
Samen met zijn vriend Rob Muntz gaat Van Amerongen afscheid nemen van de Lange.Van Amerongen heeft tevens een knobbeltje in zijn nek en is bang.
Muntz herkent van Amerongen nauwelijks nog terug: de ooit zo woeste schrijver rookt niet meer, drinkt niet meer, is volledig gestopt met drugs en zweert bij zijn sapcentrifuge en zijn antikankerdieet van bieten- en wortelsap.
Hij leidt een teruggetrokken bestaan in de wildernis van de Algarve, samen met zijn drie honden.Muntz besluit hem op te zoeken, samen met programmamaker Willem Davids die net genezen is van prostaatkanker.
Muntz valt van de ene in de andere verbazing in deze inktzwarte radiodocumentaire over kanker (Die trouwens ook als een komische persiflage op het narcistische egodocument Retour Hemel van Mark Bos beluisterd kan worden).

Moeten we trots zijn of treuren over jonge mannen die telkens weer ten strijde trekken? Twee ouders over hun gesneuvelde zonen en de zin van oorlog, van de loopgraven in België tot de missie in Afghanistan en Nederlandse jongeren die afreizen naar Syrië.
Samen met generaal buiten dienst Peter van Uhm reizen radiomakers Hasan Evrengün en Robert Wichink naar militaire begraafplaatsen in de Vlaamse Westhoek om antwoord te vinden op die vraag. Voor Van Uhm is het de eerste keer dat hij zich op de slagvelden van de Eerste Wereldoorlog begeeft. Hij praat over herdenken en gedenken en spreekt uitgebreid over zijn eigen gesneuvelde zoon Dennis van Uhm.
Peter, de zoon van de Duitse beeldhouwster Käthe Kollwitz, stierf in de eerste weken van de Eerste Wereldoorlog als soldaat. In de documentaire ‘Verloren Zonen’ kruisen de paden van vader Van Uhm en moeder Kollwitz elkaar. Uiteindelijk staat Van Uhm oog in oog met het Treurende Ouderpaar, een beeldengroep van Kollwitz op het Duitse ereveld Vladslo.
Zowel vader Van Uhm en moeder Kollwitz proberen zin te geven aan het verlies van hun zonen, maar ze trekken beiden een andere conclusie. Kollwitz zegt met haar beelden ‘Nooit meer Oorlog’, terwijl van Uhm respect blijft houden voor “jongelui die bereid zijn om hun nek uit te steken voor een betere wereld en daarbij -als ze pech hebben- sneuvelen.” Ook jongens die vanuit Nederland naar Syrië gaan om daar te vechten verdienen respect, volgens de oud generaal. Maar hij is het niet eens met hun idealen.Verloren Zonen is een programma van Hasan Evrengün, Robert Wichink en Joost Wilgenhof. De dagboekfragmenten van Käthe Kollwitz werden gelezen door Yvonne Scholten.
De muziek in deze documentaire is afkomstig uit het ‘World War One Project’ van Konrad Koselleck. Hij nam de eerste wereldoorlog als vertrekpunt voor een muzikaal drama. Deze voorstelling is een samenwerking tussen Koselleck’s bigband, acteur en trompettist Hans Dagelet en zangeres Ellen ten Damme. Eén van de gastsolisten is Claron MC Fadden.

The Tour de France is much more than just a cycling event.
Every summer weather is three weeks a major social and cultural event.
The television and radio messages most about the sporting developments in stages.
Much less attention is paid to what is happening outside the course.
In ‘The France of the Tour’ is about those spheres, to the people along the many paths, French, but also Dutch.Jeroen Wielaert in the Tour of 2012 the recordings started for this special Holland Doc radio documentary.
He positioned himself along the way, spoke spectators experienced the noise of musicians and advertising caravan and interviewed Raymond Poulidor, icon of the Tour.
This spring followed the interviews with no less legendary Dutch riders who have their own experiences on French roads: Henk Faanhof, Gerrit Voorting and Jan Janssen. The skate was at the top until 1996 really in use, by the Dutch women’s team.
When Tonny de Jong directly benefit appeared to have followed the foreign competition quickly, and all at the Olympic Winter Games 1998 in Nagano drove almost every skater on clapskates.
A veritable rain of world records followed, many record was multiple seconds tightenedWe can now hardly imagine pre-clap skate era, but 15 years ago, kept the minds busy.
An introduction of any material improvement whatsoever in the skating world comes not without a fight, because the familiar ‘skate’ feeling in a contest skater paramount.

The Hilversum neighborhood ‘Electrobuurt’ should probably be demolished due to the poor condition of the housing. The residents have to move back later to come into a new rented house on the same spot.
The residents do not accept this. And certainly not the way Housing Association ‘Het Gooi en Omstreken’ thinks the inhabitants equally to throw. “A letter on your mat, or you just want to leave.”
At a meeting: preliminary sketches of the new district. Nothing concrete, and very suffocating. Care about the future is great. Indeed, revenues plates change, housing benefit nibble every year something, and the whole social network is now broken.
The residents of the neighborhood ‘Electro’ (176 houses in five streets) feel heavy duped. Young and old. But they feel strongly. An action committee has been established. They let it not down! Willem Davids reports.

He states, playfully, to the matters in many debate programs on the same channel hardly follow.

The food does not taste the annoyance of her roommate is great and “there is no one to talk to” – it is so important but her daily complaints.Moreover runs every day exactly the same as the day before. Heintje has never taken into account so that you must wear your life until it’s over. They do not want to die, but can still take because she is very healthy. Most want Heintje back to her own house. Radio producer Willem Davids suggests the plan to at least this life change by simply escape from the care center. And immediately.
Heintje is directly excited, here had himself much about it, but it’s easier said than done. For where should you go on your own in a wheelchair? “Are we still call someone ‘,’ what we take note ‘,’ what time of day is best ‘and especially’ where ‘are the main dependent problems to be solved.
In contrast to the current old age of Heintje, two upcoming vergrijzers .. They come from the ‘Woodstock Generation’. Willem works at the Dutch broadcasting RVU and Machteld child at home at Radio 1.He is forty-eight, divorced father and two older daughters. She is a thirtysomething and mother of a young son. He lives in a penthouse in Hilversum, she thrives between the Brabant slopes in Meldert, near Leuven. He is a loner philosophizing, she stands with both legs in the world. The contrasts could hardly be greater.
For seven days they read each other’s mail, they slept in the bed of the other, they made arrangements with friends of theirs were. By day they gave each other a command: the envelopes were until morning to be opened and the orders had been done before midnight.
It was a compelling and confrontational discovery that eventually was awarded so literally.
